Her body is a quilt.
I know this,because I’ve watched her get patched up
from time to time.
I know thisbecause I’ve felt her warmth lay over me
on those rainy nights.
Her body is a quilt
with a long family history, and now she doesn’t knowwhich squares of theirs she inherited
are the ones that need to go.
So she’llrip some off at the seams,
pray those aren’t the ones she needs,
and patch herself up with another piece.
